Recruiting Experience: Dan has advised on some of the most significant lateral partner transactions of the past 15 years. Emblematic of his practice are deals which opened up Wilson Sonsini, WilmerHale, Stradling, Goodwin Procter and Kelley Drye offices in LA, Gibson Dunn’s office in Singapore, complemented by his numerous other signature placements, including his recent high end IP group placement at Milbank (from Irell & Manella) and his partner placements jump starting the California real estate group for Kirkland & Ellis. His placements have repeatedly been listed on The American Lawyer’s annual short list of the top lateral partner moves worldwide, including the most recent list in Feb 2020.
Resume: Prior to recruiting, Dan practiced with Allen Matkins and was later hired by Home Depot to create and manage its West Coast legal department (a 20B Division). Dan’s work there earned him recognition as one of the “Top 20 Lawyers under 40” in California by the California Daily Journal. Dan began recruiting by founding the partner recruiting practice in Southern California for Major Lindsey & Africa.
Thought Leadership: Dan is a regular speaker at Sandpiper Partner’s Annual Los Angeles/California Legal State of the Market conference, and, most recently, served as co-moderator and faculty member for the 13th annual conference held virtually on December 8th, 2020. This recent conference included insights into the lateral partner market considering the impacts of COVID, and other talent and business strategy considerations in the much-changed law firm environment. Dan has also been a content contributor for notable legal publications, including his Law360 article on the six most pervasive myths about lateral partner movement, which was the most widely read guest article of the year.
